Francis Brio, known in his early career by various stage names such as Francyville, Fame, and Gb Famouz, has solidified his place in the Hip Hop community. Born Gabby Francis Uko in Dakar, Senegal, and with Nigerian roots, his journey in music began at 17. His adolescence in Cotonou, Benin, played a pivotal role in defining his musical style, which he honed further upon relocating to Lagos, Nigeria. His early exposure to diverse influences fostered a unique sound that caught international attention early on.
In 2002, Francis Brio's career was notably marked by his participation in a Gabonese all-star track against HIV/AIDS, performing in a UNICEF concert alongside legendary acts like Angelique Kidjo, Awilo Longomba, and Extra Musica. His later tour across Africa with Nel Olivier further cemented his status as a significant figure in the music scene.
His extensive collaborations with artists from France, Senegal, Gabon, and beyond, reflect his versatility and depth as a producer and performer. Awards nods, such as those from the Black Music Awards for Best Rap Icon and the Nigerian Music Video Awards for Best Promising Art, highlight his ongoing influence. In 2015, he was again recognized at the Gbedu Awards, capturing titles for Best Afro Pop Artiste and Best Music Producer of the Year.
Francis Brio's artistic mantra, shaped by his deep engagement with sounds and cultures, is underscored by his personal ethos: 'Making beats is my passion, hearing the juicy tones keeps me so alive and putting them together makes me feel like a creator.'
